Athletes may participate in Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Black Belt divisions in Forms, Olympic-style Sparring and Point Sparring. A benefit of AAU membership is the athlete accident and liability insurance programs. For specific information regarding insurance coverage, please refer to the current insurance brochures.

AAU Tae Kwon Do competition includes the Youth and Adult National Tae Kwon Do Championship during the July 4th weekend and the AAU Junior Olympic Games--the largest national multi-sport event conducted annually for youth in the United States--and the showcase event of the AAU Youth Sports Program held the first week of August. The inaugural Games were hosted by Washington D.C. in 1968 with two sports and 523 athletes. Since then, the popularity of the Games has blossomed to the point where over 12,000 athletes representing all 50 states can participate in 27 sports.

4. DAN Certification
AAU members can have their present rank certified and test for advancement through the AAU Tae Kwon Do Program's optional Dan Certification. Our goal is to provide a fair, consistent and thorough testing procedure for our members, which recognizes and incorporates their differences in style and training methods. We provide an achievable standard in which all AAU certified Black Belts may take pride. Over 1,600 AAU Black Belt athletes have been certified through the AAU Tae Kwon Do Program.

5. Referee/Coaches Certification
The AAU administers the foremost national referee and coaches licensing program in the country. Rigorous certification standards set by the AAU ensure the highest caliber of AAU Tae Kwon Do tournaments recognized by practitioners throughout the country. Master Kathy Wieczerza

Dear Family, Friends, and Martial Arts Community,

Two weeks ago, one of our own lost everything including her home and most of her processions in the Nashville floods. Master Kathy Wieczerza, better known as "The Wiz" to her students, friends, and family, woke up on Sunday, May 2nd, 2010, in the wee hours of the morning, to find that she would have to evacuate her family from the home they loved. They had to make their way within minutes, as the water quickly rose, and find their way to higher ground on which to wait out what has now been recognized as the single-most costly, non-hurricane flood in our National history, having caused the most damage that Middle Tennessee has suffered since the Civil War.

The rain continued all day. It only began to clear after 10 pm. By the time the storm finally subsided, it had poured more rain on this one day than had ever been recorded in Nashville for the month of May.

The Nashville flood has been declared a National Disaster, yet the National news has given it very little attention.

What can you do to help?

A Red Belt is always "the first to help and the last to leave." Please make a donation of money, gifts-in-kind via our online registries, or of your time, so that we can give a little bit back to a family that has given us all so much. A trust fund has been established to help the Wieczerza family.

And, please, pass on the information about the effects and aftermath of the Nashville Flood. Tell your friends, tell your family, tell everyone.

Go to www.redbeltheart.org to donate, see photo, read the whole story, and to find out how you can help the "Wiz".

Sincerely,

Bobby Stone
